Creating polls in Slack is instant and effortless. Just type the /geekbot command in any Slack channel or thread, then watch the bot use AI to suggest responses. It's the perfect tool for collecting team feedback quickly.
Here's how it works
In a Slack channel
Open the channel where you want to run the poll. (Make sure Geekbot is invited to the channel)
Type
/geekbotfollowed by your question (e.g.,/geekbot What's most beneficial in the new program?).Press Enter to initiate the poll creation process.
💡Tip: You can suggest the number of options you want Geekbot to add to your poll for example:
/geekbot When should we schedule the next Engineering meeting? Provide 3 time slots on Tuesday

In a Slack thread
Type /geekbot within a thread to run a poll in the channel and generate suggestions based on the conversation. This is helpful when your team is already discussing a topic and you want Geekbot to generate poll options from that context.
💡 Tip: To guide the poll, add directions after your question, for example:
/geekbot Which option should we move forward with? Keep the answers short and focused on the ideas above/geekbot What should we prioritize next? Suggest 4 options based on this thread
Adjust suggested responses
Once you hit enter, Geekbot will generate answer options for your poll in the channel. This not only saves you time but it ensures your polls are clear, engaging, and tailored for your team’s needs.
If you need to adjust the responses, click Edit on the poll. From there, you can:
Click the three dots next to an option to edit or delete it.
Click + Add your option to add another response, then type your answer and click Save.
Repeat as necessary to finalize your poll responses.
💡Tip: Once your poll is published, it can no longer be edited.
Confirm Poll duration
Within the editing interface, set the duration for which the poll will be open (options include minutes, hours, days, or weeks).
💡Tip: A set duration ensures that your poll remains time-bound and encourages prompt participation.
Click Publish
Once your poll is ready, click Publish.
The poll will instantly appear in the Slack channel, showing the question, available answers, and a voting interface for participants.
