Geekbot comes with a handful of commands that let you interact with the bot directly from your chat, whether that's triggering a standup, skipping a question, or creating a quick poll. No need to leave your conversation to get things done.
Below, you'll find the full list of commands available for Slack and Microsoft Teams, along with tips on how to make the most of each one.
Geekbot commands in Slack
Here's the full list of available commands, which you can access anytime by sending help in your DM's with Geekbot.
General commands
dashboard
Opens a link to your Geekbot dashboard, where you can configure your standups, browse the timeline, and access insights. It's the fastest way to jump into your settings without hunting for a URL.
report
Triggers a standup on demand, handy when you want to report ahead of schedule or catch up on one you missed. If you're part of multiple standups, Geekbot will list them so you can pick which one to fill in.
out of office
Lets Geekbot know you're away. While you're marked as OOO, the bot won't send you any standup prompts. Type it again (or use ooo) to manage your registered out-of-office periods.
During a standup
skip, nothing, none, no, -
Use any of these to skip a question you don't have an answer for. This keeps your report clean and reduces noise for your teammates reading the updates.
cancel
Cancels your current standup session. Geekbot will discard your in-progress answers and wait for you to type report when you're ready to start fresh.
Creating a poll directly in channels
/geekbot or /geekpoll followed by your question, creates a poll directly in any Slack channel where Geekbot is invited. Just type something like /geekbot What day works best for the team retro? and hit enter.
💡 Tip: If Geekbot AI is enabled, it'll even suggest response options for you. You can also guide the AI by specifying how many options you'd like, for example: /geekbot When should we hold the next sync? Provide 3 time slots on Thursday.
